Planning and Environment

Introduction of new legislation in 2004 started a radical overhaul of the UK planning system. Designed to speed up the application process, which was seen as hindering property development, it also changed the thinking behind how development projects were assessed. For instance, there is now a much broader consideration of regional development as a whole and a much greater emphasis on environmental impact. The effects on the industry are significant – particularly in the South East which is gearing up for major expansion of the transport infrastructure and the approach of the Olympics in 2012.

Our Planning and Environmental Group is advising many different investors, developers and public sector bodies throughout this period of change. We work on both public and private sector projects covering a wide range of office, retail, leisure, residential and mixed-use schemes.

We advise on all aspects of the planning process from project inception through to consent. This includes:

  • Strategic planning advice
  • Compulsory purchase orders
  • S.106 agreements
  • Urban regeneration
  • Contaminated land
  • Environmental assessments
  • Infrastructure agreements
  • Appeals
  • Development Plans and Regional Spatial Strategies
  • Dispute Resolution
